The Gospel According To C.S. Lewis: Running On Peace

Pastor Sean Palmer offered meaningful guidance toward finding peace and faith in a season that is overwhelming in so many ways. As the recovery from Hurricane Harvey has only just begun, how will we center our reliance on God to provide the direction and endurance needed for the long road ahead?

Text

Mark 4: 37-40

Matthew 26: 18, 30, 36

God made us: invented us as a man invents an engine. A car is made to run on petrol, and it would not run properly on anything else. Now God designed the human machine to run on Himself. He Himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to burn, or the food our spirits were designed to feed on. There is no other….God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there.

-C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

Reflection

In the long season of healing that has only just begun, how will you commit to the rhythms Sean discussed? Eat (engage in community), Sing (worship and connect with beauty), Pray (seek and submit to God's will), and Focus (prepare and respond with action).

Sean suggested that "prayer without action is superstition." As you extend your prayers to so many in need, how might you follow through in action this week to be an answer to those prayers?

Please continue to check ecclesiahouston.org/reliefprojects which will be regularly updated throughout this season with needs throughout our community
