A People of Justice

Pastor Sean Palmer shares the story of Fannie Lou Hamer and how her faith led her to fight for justice. Her story, and the words of the scripture that she held dear, remind us that we too are a people of justice, and seeking justice does have a personal cost.

Scriptures & Quotations

“When they asked for those to raise their hands who'd go down to the courthouse the next day, I raised mine. Had it high up as I could get it. I guess if I'd had any sense I'd've been a little scared, but what was the point of being scared? The only thing they could do to me was kill me and it seemed like they'd been trying to do that a little bit at a time ever since I could remember.” — Fannie Lou Hamer

Proverbs 26:26

And though he covers his hatred with cleverness, his wicked ways will be publicly exposed.

Acts 17:26

This God made us in all our diversity from one original person, allowing each culture to have its own time to develop, giving each its own place to live and thrive in its distinct ways.

“If I fall, I’ll fall five feet four inches forward in the fight for freedom. I’m not backing off.” — Fannie Lou Hamer

Isaiah 58:6-7

No, what I want in a fast is this: to liberate those tied down and held back by injustice, to lighten the load of those heavily burdened, to free the oppressed and shatter every type of oppression. A fast for Me involves sharing your food with people who have none, giving those who are homeless a space in your home, giving clothes to those who need them, and not neglecting your own family.

Micah 6:8

No. He has told you, mortals, what is good in His sight. What else does the Eternal ask of you But to live justly and to love kindness and to walk with your True God in all humility?
