Sinners and Saints

Ericka Graham invites us to continue in our journey through the Gospel of John. We are shown, time and again, the signs of God’s redeeming love accepting us as sinners while calling us toward the “sainthood” of living fully into that love.

Text

John 20: 1-10

John 21: 15-23

John 8: 4-7

Leviticus 20: 10

Jeremiah 17:13

“They wanted to see if this Jesus fellow who ate with tax collectors and prostitutes and who touched the ritually impure, could be tough on sin. So, they picked a clear-cut sin with a clear-cut consequence—a biblical slam dunk—and passed around the stones.”

- Rachel Held Evans

Reflection & Practice

What is one thing about yourself that you really love? This can be a hard question to answer for most of us. “Is there even a fragment of saint within me?,” we ask. God created us as his masterpiece and he sees such goodness in us. Spend some time this week reflecting on the God-placed good within you.

Ericka shared the story of Pastor Chris being part of the encouragement that led her to start charity Project 88 when she didn’t believe it was possible. Is there something God is calling into that may seem impossible? Write it down and share it with a close friend. What’s the first step toward making it a reality?
