Land of Queso and Baklava

Pastor Chris Seay closes our series in the Exodus as we examine how we can miss out on life by hardening our hearts to God. When we allow our lives to become routine, we do not stop to mourn or celebrate and we lose empathy. Our call to action is to rely on God daily, pursue daily adventure, live well, chase our passion and feel the joy & pain of others.

Text

Acts 7:44-60

Hebrews 3:7-8

Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done.

–C.S. Lewis

If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine; it is lethal.

–Paulo Coelho

Live. And Live Well. BREATHE. Breathe in and Breathe deeply. Be PRESENT. Do not be past. Do not be future. Be now. On a crystal clear, breezy 70 degree day, roll down the windows and FEEL the wind against your skin. Feel the warmth of the sun. If you run, then allow those first few breaths on a cool Autumn day to FREEZE your lungs and do not just be alarmed, be ALIVE. Get knee-deep in a novel and LOSE track of time. If you bike, pedal HARD… and if you crash then crash well.

Feel the SATISFACTION of a job well done—a paper well-written, a project thoroughly completed, a play well-performed. If you must wipe the snot from your 3-year old’s nose, don’t be disgusted if the Kleenex didn’t catch it all… because soon he’ll be wiping his own. If you’ve recently experienced loss, then GRIEVE. And Grieve well.
At the table with friends and family, LAUGH.

If you’re eating and laughing at the same time, then might as well laugh until you puke. And if you eat, then SMELL. The aromas are not impediments to your day. Steak on the grill, coffee beans freshly ground, cookies in the oven. And TASTE. Taste every ounce of flavor. Taste every ounce of friendship. Taste every ounce of Life. Because-it-is-most-definitely-a-Gift.

Quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death. Set God-sized goals. Pursue God-ordained passions. Go after a dream that is destined to fail without divine intervention. Keep asking questions. Keep making mistakes. Keep seeking God. Stop pointing out problems and become part of the solution. Stop repeating the past and start creating the future. Stop playing it safe and start taking risks.

Expand your horizons. Accumulate experiences. Enjoy the journey. Find every excuse you can to celebrate everything you can. Live like today is the first day and last day of your life.

Reflection Questions and Practices

Pastor Chris challenged us to pursue daily adventure. Daily relying on God requires pursuing adventure and letting go of our routine of life. What are some ways we can break our routine/plans in order for us to rely on more on God?

This week, take moments to breathe, breathe DEEPLY. Be PRESENT. LOSE track of time. GRIEVE well. Don't quit LAUGHING. Take moments to TASTE every ounce of life. Throughout the week, journal these moments and allow God to be present with you. Accept His invitation to the adventure He has in store for you.
