Uncommon Unity

Guest preacher Nancy Ortberg shares a much needed word on the unique witness of the Church in a divided world. When we truly embrace our unity in and under God, stop comparing, and simply serve one another, lives are transformed in ways that we can never predict or anticipate.

Our gratitude to Nancy, her husband John, and the community of Menlo.Church in northern California.

Reflection Questions

From what particular individuals or groups do you find yourself prone to withdraw? Look back upon your week, or month. In your workplace or neighborhood, with whom specifically can you (and will you) widen your circle of hospitality and true unity?

What act of hospitality can you participate in to embrace this individual or a member of this group? How can you learn to see their story? One idea, like the doctor's instruction to the intern (concerning housekeeper Carlos) in Nancy's story would be to set your sights on learning three things about this person. Make these three things something deeper than would appear in someone's "About Me" on Facebook.
