Exodus For All: Stockholm Syndrome

Pastor Chris Seay begins a conversation that we pray will guide us through the upcoming season of Lent. Chris challenges us to make the weeks ahead an exodus from the pharaohs that have taken hold of our hearts and lives. Pastor Jim Doremus followed up and encourages us that we are wired for growth, armed and able with the Holy Spirit and a community of support.

Reflection Questions

As we prepare for Ash Wednesday, and our Lenten journey together, we're all called to take an honest look at our own pharaohs, and the power they have over us. It may be food, alcohol, or substance. It may be the perceptions and opinions of others. It may be our work, or money. Whatever the case, these weeks are an invitation into new rhythms of simplicity and sacrifice in the hope of liberation. What is God calling you to give up (fast from) for these 40 days (or longer), or what specific daily practices would God like you to take on?

Try to meditate on this, humbly asking the Spirit to shed light on your darkest corners. After considering this, pray a simple prayer, asking the Spirit to give you strength for the fast. To conclude your meditation, spend a couple minutes on the truth that Pastor Jim shared: You are wired for growth. Thank God for this reality and ask God to make it so in this season.
